WONSTON PARISH COUNCIL
Latest Groundwater Report from the Environment Agency added
11/02/26 The winterbourne (underground stream) is now pooling quite badly at the footpath entrance adjacent to the Victoria Hall car park. It is flowing via the gulley into the culvert and is not currently a threat although the water level has risen in the past week. The fields across towards Wonston Lane are badly flooded but being enjoyed by about 8 egrets. At the northern end of the village the Bogmoor Sump is working as designed and water levels are average for this time of the year. The outflow into the River Dever opposite the Texaco is in full flow. One property in The Square has already experienced water coming up through the floor. Water levels will continue tor rise for some time so properties with previous histories of flooding should be prepared.

Wonston Parish, one of the 40 or so Parishes that make up Winchester District, usually called Winchester City, comprises the villages of Suttton Scotney, Wonston, Stoke Charity, Norton and Hunton - quite a small population but a surprisingly large area of land, with all of the social and environmental issues which concern people in rural England.
The lowest rung on the local government ladder is the voluntary Parish Council which strives to represent the views of the community to the higher authorities at District and County level, and even on occasion to Central Government level along with other like minded parishes. Particularly in the planning field, the Council tries to ensure that planned new housing and conversion work maintains the traditional values which village communities cherish. The Council also actively encourages the various public authorities to do their jobs in maintaining and repairing roads, drainage, communication and the like. In fact, the Council takes an interest in almost every facet of village life.
The Council normally meets on the second Wednesday of each month (except August) in the Victoria Hall, Sutton Scotney, starting at 7.30pm. Parishioners are most welcome to attend these meetings, and are especially encouraged to attend the Annual Parish Meeting which is held in May, usually the day following the Parish Council Meeting.
Full details of the times and locations of meetings are on the agenda which is available each month on this website, and the noticeboards around the Parish
The Council is determined that its activities on behalf of the parish should be open to all interested parishioners and there is indeed a statutory requirement that this should be so.
